Taipa Speedway and CTRA

Taipa Speedway is a family based club situated in the Far North. The track was established in the late 1980s, thanks to the passion and enthusiasm of the Poharama Family. Percy and Mere Poharama over the years have been feature drivers on our track until Percy's untimely death on the 6th June 2010. Mere is still an active member of the club and races in C Grade.

Taipa Speedway is part of the Circle Track Racing Association (CTRA). The CTRA was started by Barry Butterworth (well known and successful Auckland speedway racer) back in 1987.

The Taipa Speedway track is well known for its red clay surface. The track is carved out of the landscape and a base of red clay laid. The clay is then compacted. The infield of the track is earth.

Volunteers needed

In order for our race days to be successful we require the work of many volunteers. These jobs include; In Field, Public Announcer, Water Truck, Flags, First Response Vehicle, Lap Scorers, Starter Flag, Tractor Driver, Scrutineer. Our volunteers are greatly appreciated and valued. If you are interested in helping please contact the club.
